Pick 6 carryover of $83K on Sunday at Belmont at the Big A

by Christian Abdo

Sunday’s card at Belmont at the Big A will be bolstered by a Pick 6 carryover of $83,911 after the multi-race wager went unsolved on Saturday’s 12-race program.

The $1 Pick 6 returned $822.50 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

Saturday’s Pick 6 sequence kicked off in Race 7 with an upset as Shadyside [No. 10, $37.60] took a six-furlong maiden optional claimer with Kendrick Carmouche aboard for trainer John Kimmel.

Conditioner Linda Rice sent out the next winner with the Jose Lezcano-piloted Nina Kay [No. 15, $20.20], who captured a six-furlong off-the-turf maiden in Race 8. One race later, the first favorite of the sequence came through with Mufasa [No. 6, $5.20*] taking the seven-furlong Grade 3, $250,000 Vosburgh, with Irad Ortiz, Jr. in the irons for trainer Ignacio Correas, IV, in Race 9.

In Race 10, an off-the-turf one-turn mile optional-claimer, Floki’s Flight [No. 15, $4.80*] earned another win for Ortiz, Jr. and Rice. In Race 11, the 1 1/16-mile outer turf Grade 2, $200,000 Pilgrim, the favored Zulu Kingdom [No. 4, $3.70*] closed to victory under Hall of Famer Joel Rosario for four-time Eclipse Award-winner Chad Brown.

With 4-of-11 horses left uncovered in the Race 12 finale, a one-turn mile maiden claimer, Counter Attack [No. 4, $53.50] sprung a 25-1 upset, triggering the carryover. Ricardo Santana, Jr. engineered the victory for conditioner Juan Bernardini.

Sunday’s Pick 6 begins in Race 4 at approximately 2:33 p.m. Eastern, and includes the Grade 2, $200,000 Miss Grillo, in Race 8. First post on the nine-race card that also features the Grade 2, $250,000 Gallant Bloom [Race 2] is 1:05 p.m.
