Pick 6 carryover of $35K into Saturday’s card at Belmont at the Big A

by Keith McCalmont

Saturday’s card at Belmont at the Big A will be bolstered by a Pick 6 carryover of $35,817 after the multi-race wager went unsolved on Friday’s nine-race program.

The $1 Pick 6 returned $1,437 to bettors who selected 5-of-6 winners correctly.

Friday’s sequence kicked off in Race 4 as Status Seeker [No. 5, $13.40] captured a starter allowance sprint for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and up with Romero Maragh at the helm for trainer Rudy Rodriguez.

Eliseo Ruiz engineered an upset in Race 5 with the Linda Dixon-trained Cable Ready [No. 2, $41.40] taking down a turf route for state-breds 3-years-old and up, one race before Baby Yoda [No. 1, $36.40] upset Race 6, a seven-furlong optional-claimer for older horses, with Eric Cancel aboard for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott.

Feltrinelli [No. 1, $3.70*] staved off the late bid of Final Edition [No. 7] to capture Race 7, a maiden turf sprint for 3-years-old and up with Manny Franco up for trainer George Weaver.

The Rick Dutrow, Jr.-trained Messier [No. 3, $8.20] avenged being disqualified from a winning effort last out in the Excelsior by taking the Grade 3 Westchester, a one-turn mile for older horses, in impressive fashion to provide jockey Jose Gomez his first graded stakes win.

With the carryover already confirmed, the Katie Davis-ridden and Barclay Tagg-trained Union Trail [No. 9, $6.80] fended off a host of challengers in deep stretch to capture Race 9, an inner turf route for New York-bred maidens 3-years-old and up.

Saturday’s Pick 6 begins in Race 6 at 3:29 p.m. Eastern and includes the Grade 2, $200,000 Fort Marcy in Race 8, the Listed $150,000 Elusive Quality in Race 9 and the Grade 2, $200,000 Ruffian in Race 10. First post on the 11-race card is 1:05 p.m.
