McCarthy is the son of former jockey Michael McCarthy, who won more than 2,900 races. Initially based on the Mid-Atlantic circuit, McCarthy has made a splash at New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) tracks over the past two years, entering Friday’s card in third place in the jockey standings at the Aqueduct Racetrack winter meet with 31 wins. In this episode, McCarthy discusses adapting to New York racing and his success in other jurisdictions, including his efforts last summer in Southern California.
