Race 10 – Stewards inquiry into the stretch run # 9 Bella Ciao (Edgard Zayas) drifts in around the 1/16 pole making contact with the # 5 Nonna Madeline (John Velazquez) while the # 5 drifts out slightly under a left handed crop. After reviewing the video and speaking to the riders involved no further action is warranted and the race is official as is. The order of finish is 6-11-1-9
With regard to interference, New York is a “Category 2” state, meaning that Commission rules provide that if the interferer is guilty of causing interference and such interference in the judgment of the Stewards has altered the finish of the race, then the interferer is placed behind the offended horse.
The Stewards consider whether the riders of the horse or horses that are offended continue to give effort to the finish of the race.
The Stewards also consider whether the offending jockey acted in a willful or careless manner while interfering with another horse or jockey, for which the interferer may be disqualified, i.e., placed last or unplaced in the order of finish. For example, if an offending jockey acts in a dangerous manner, exhibits extremely improper riding or impedes several horses, the Stewards may disqualify the offending horse without regard to the specific effect of the foul on the order of finish.
Race 8 – Stewards inquiry and jockey objection by the 3rd place finisher #10 Hizeem (Javier Castellano) against the 1st and 2nd place finishers #8 Final Frontier (Jose Lezcano) and #4 Strike Me Down (Joel Rosario) for alleged interference in late stretch. #8 Final Frontier comes out under left handed crop and makes contact with #10 Hizeem as #4 Strike Me Down is lugging in and also bumps #10 Hizeem causing him to be bumped back and forth between horses losing all momentum. After viewing the video and speaking to all riders involved it was the determination of the stewards that the interference altered the order of finish and #8 Final Frontier was DQ’d from 1st and placed 2nd while #4 Strike me Down was DQ’d from 2nd and place 3rd. The official order of finish 10.8.4.1
