Race 10 - Stewards’ inquiry and jockey’s objection into the running of race 10. In the vicinity of the 3/16th pole, #11 Its a Wrap (Manuel Franco) ducks in under a right-handed crop, knocking #6 Complex System (Javier Castellano) off stride. After reviewing the video and speaking to the affected riders, in the opinion stewards the extent of the interference warranted a disqualification. #11 was disqualified from 2nd and placed 3rd behind #6. The race was made official with the new order of finish 9-6-11-8.
NYSGC Rule 4039.20 Stewards determine the extent of disqualification. The stewards are vested with the power to determine the extent of disqualification in case of fouls. The stewards may place the offending horse behind such horses as, in the stewards’ judgment, the offending horse interfered with, or the stewards may place the offending horse last, and the stewards may disqualify the offending horse from participation in any part of the purse.
