Few horses have been as beloved in New York as Easy Goer. The charismatic chestnut was nearly perfect in the Empire State for owner Ogden Phipps, trainer Shug McGaughey, and jockey Pat Day. At Belmont Park alone, he took the Cowdin, Champagne, Belmont Stakes, Woodward, Jockey Club Gold Cup, and Suburban, all G1s. The Easy Goer Stakes was introduced as an overnight stakes race in 2011. It was restricted to three-year-olds beginning in 2012, and formally added to the stakes program for the 2014 running.
