Stewards Inquiry and Jockey’s Objection approaching the 1/16 pole. #1 Caramel Swirl (Junior Alvarado) claimed foul against #2 Sterling Silver (Javier Castellano) and #6 Headland (Jose Lezcano) for being squeezed out of the hole. #2 Sterling Silver comes in on #1 Caramel Swirl as #6 Headland comes out causing #1 Caramel Swirl and jockey( Junior Alvarado) to take up sharply and bounce off the saddle and lose very valuable ground. #4 Beguine and jockey (Dylan Davis) claimed foul against #1 Caramel Swirl and #2 Sterling Silver approaching the 1/16th pole for being squeezed. After speaking to the riders and reviewing the film the stewards felt #4 Beguine was not cost a placing so the claim of foul by Dylan Davis was disallowed, the claim of foul by #1 Junior Alvarado against the 2 & 6 was allowed. The stewards felt that #2 Javier Castellano came in on #1 Caramel Swirl as #6 Jose Lezcano came out forcing the #1 out of the hole and cost him placings. Official Order of Finish 1-2-6-4.
With regard to interference, New York is a “Category 2” state, meaning that Commission rules provide that if the interferer is guilty of causing interference and such interference in the judgment of the Stewards has altered the finish of the race, then the interferer is placed behind the offended horse. The Stewards consider whether the riders of the horse or horses that are offended continue to give effort to the finish of the race. The Stewards also consider whether the offending jockey acted in a willful or careless manner while interfering with another horse or jockey, for which the interferer may be disqualified, i.e., placed last or unplaced in the order of finish. For example, if an offending jockey acts in a dangerous manner, exhibits extremely improper riding or impedes several horses, the Stewards may disqualify the offending horse without regard to the specific effect of the foul on the order of finish.
