The Floral Park is named in honor of the village that borders Belmont Park, and where many NYRA-based horsemen call home. Floral Park was founded by horticulturist and politician John Lewis Childs who, in order to promote his own business and the local horticultural industry, named the local streets after flowers and renamed the area Floral Park. The town was previously known as East Hinsdale. Notable people to have resided in Floral Park include Heisman winner and two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Vinny Testaverde and renowned American composer John Williams.
