The Belmont Turf Sprint was inaugurated in 2016 as a local prep for the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. It was first won by Pure Sensation who finished a close third in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint later that fall for trainer Christophe Clement and owner Patricia Generazio. Clement and Generazio went on to capture the following two Belmont Turf Sprints with Disco Partner [2017-18], who finished third both of those year’s runnings of the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint.
